PHYTONUTRIENTS?

What are Phytonutrients?
Phytonutrients are essential organic elements found in plants. These nutrients found in natural foods bring a high level of nutrition to our bodies. These elements work internally through our digestive tract to make sure our bodies can function properly.

Where are Phytonutrients found?
Phytonutrients are found in nuts, vegetables, fruits, grains, tea, herbs, spices, and basically anything that comes from a plant that we eat. We eat them everyday and we don’t even realize it.

soulmate

A friend asked me the other day- can you love romantically only once? Although there are some that may disagree, I didn’t hesitate to say that you certainly could. I chatted about this to a few people at work, and one colleague quite adamantly gushed that there was only one person for everyone and that was what a soulmate was.

Righteo then. This prompted me to give it a little more thought.

Definition of SOULMATE: Basically, just two souls who share an amazing, personal connection.

However, thanks to the numerous romantic movies and fairytales out there, when you think of the term “soulmate” you cannot help but conjure up an over romanticised notion that there is just one person out there for you. JUST ONE?!

Think about it a little more carefully however. Just the one- in a world of over 6.7 billion people, in this day and age of constant migration, technology which enables us to travel across the globe in less than a day and communicate with strangers across entire nations, even with all this, we only have one person which we will meet, fall in love with and be together for the rest of our lives?

Perhaps. But given the infinite number of chances that is now possible in meeting more people than ever before, can you really rule out never falling in love again? Doesn’t that make the whole concept of the soulmate terribly, terribly limiting?

Becasue say, for whatever reason, the two of you just start growing in different directions or something should happen to your partner? Suddenly you are on your own, the love of your life, “supposedly” the only one you will ever have has now gone.

Do you remain resigned to the possibility of love never entering your life again? How does that begin to serve you in any kind of positive way? Would it be worth closing the door to someone else wanting to love you, wanting to walk hand in hand with you down a beautiful new path adorned with new experiences and joy?

Does loving again mean you are disrespecting or taking away from a love you may once have had? I think not. Love is bigger than that.

Years ago, I was a big believer in there being just that one person for everyone.

I first fell in love when I was 21 years old. I believed it would be forever. And two years later when it ended, for the first few months I was shell-shocked. How could this be? I truly loved with all that I had! Was that my soulmate come and gone? Was that it for me? I’m only 23!!!

However, as it would turn out, life can be as complex as it can be simple, and I learned that if you choose to remain open to infinite possibilities, and a happiness that is formless, love could indeed find you again. And it did.

I believe it was because I opened myself up to it after years of healing and gave the “rules” of the soulmate a good kick up the backside.

The love I share with my partner now is much deeper, more meaningful and feels just as new because I realised the person I was at 21 is very different to the person I am at 26.

So can you love again? I reckon you can. And I’m happy I did!

troubled tree

The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.

On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.

"Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied." I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again."

He paused. "Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there ain't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."

JUICES THAT HEAL BLOOD DISORDERS

It is no secret that the juices of raw fruits and vegetables are rich in healing elements. Foods that we eat have effects, either good or bad, on our bodies and over all health. Blending certain juices together that all have healing properties can have significant impact on our health conditions.

Blood disorders are becoming increasingly common. Having blood that is too thick or too thin is something that should be addressed. To increase the production of red blood cells, improve circulation and strengthen blood capillaries the following items should be thrown into a blender for healing blood disorders: beets, grapes, kale, spinach, blueberries. Remember, the dark juices are best for the blood.

a baseball game

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: ‘When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?’

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. ‘I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.’

Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys were playing baseball. Shay asked, ‘Do you think they’ll let me play?’ Shay’s father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay’s father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, ‘We’re losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.’

Shay struggled over to the team’s bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt . His father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father’s joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay’s team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn’t even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay’s life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman’s head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, ‘Shay, run to first! Run to first!’ Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, ‘Run to second, run to second!’ Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher’s intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman’s head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, ‘Shay, Shay, Shay, all the way Shay!’

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, ‘Run to third, Shay, run to third!’

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, ‘Shay, run home! Run home!’ Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

‘That day’, said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, ‘the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world’.

Young Shay would never forget what it felt like to be a hero that day.

Neither would the other boys.

HOW TO MAKE HEALING OINTMENTS

Ointments or salve usually deal with a base of petroleum jelly, like for instance Vaseline. If you read back through the herbs and herbal remedies that I have written extensively on in the past, you can choose which herbs best suits your specific affliction and need. Once you have compiled a list of herbs (usually 2-6 herbs) for your issues, you are ready to make your ointment.

STEPS:
1. Take you petroleum jelly and heat in a double boiler. Make sure it is hot but not boiling. (start on high for a few minutes then turn to medium heat)
2. Add your herbs when the base is thoroughly melted.
3. Remember not to get it to a rolling boil or it may dry up quickly.
4. Slowly cook the herbs (medium heat) in the melted base for about 2-21/2 hours.
5. Remove it from the heat and strain it with a cheese cloth.
Let it cool and there you have salve or a ‘healing ointment’.
